Fowler Memorial Tourney This Weekend

Diablo FC hosts its 4th tournament of 2008 this weekend when the 12th annual Bob Fowler Memorial Tournament is held at a variety of fields around Concord. We have 64 teams taking part in this Division 3 boys and girls tournament, including 10 from our club (9 girls and 1 boys Diablo FC teams).

Tournament directors Randy Rowland and Paula Schiff have been working with a dedicated committee of Diablo FC parent volunteers for several months in planning this event. There will be 111 total games in U12 through U19 boys and girls divisions. We have 31 clubs representing 7 of the 9 CYSA Districts taking part. Several clubs have as many as 3 teams entered with teams traveling from Modesto, Santa Cruz, Elk Grove, Davis, Roseville and Santa Rosa as well as nearby clubs Mustang, Heritage, Lamorinda, Walnut Creek, San Ramon and Vallejo.

Also, read about Bob Fowler, for whom the tournament is dedicated. Bob was a man involved in all areas of youth and scholastic soccer in our area when he tragically and suddenly passed away in 1995 just after being named head coach of the Los Medanos College team.

The year’s Diablo FC tournament schedule concludes Oct. 25-26 for the 10th annual Halloween Kick or Treat Classic for U9 and U10 teams.
