U15 Diablo FC Teams Place 3 on All-Tournament

Tampa---Diablo FC 92 boys and girls teams participated in last month’s 10th annual Super Y-League North American Championships and came away with three players earning U15 All-Tournament honors.

Coach Richard Weiszmann’s girls reached the championship game, where they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker in overtime to Arsenal FC of Southern California. For their fine efforts during the tournament as the local girls played five games in five days, Emily Irion and Wendy Magarin were named to the All-Tournament squad.  Irion was co-player of the game for Diablo FC 92 in all three group stage games. Magarin scored the team’s goal in the championship outing.

The Diablo FC U15 boys coached by Jon Bernal were also recognized with Jose Manuel Sandoval on the all-tournament team. He received three votes for the honor from opposing coaches, one of the highest totals among U15 boys despite his team not playing in the high-profile semi-finals or finals.

TAMPA – United Soccer Leagues announced today the U15 Boys and Girls All-Tournament Teams following the 10th annual North American Finals, held Nov. 21-25 in Tampa, Florida. Selections were based off the nominations of opposing coaches made throughout tournament play.

The Super Y-League’s Southern California Division claimed both the girls and boys titles as the 16-team Boys tournament was decided by a 3-0 win by West Coast FC over the City Islanders Academy and Arsenal FC claimed the 12-team U15 girls tournament with a 2-1 overtime win over Diablo FC.

West Coast FC striker Juan Mendoza earned MVP honors after scoring a goal in the final. Mendoza is joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammate Juan Ocegueda de Alba, who netted two goals and an assist in five North American Finals matches. The top vote-getter during the tournament was FC Fredericksburg’s Ryan Zinkham. The forward was recognized by opposing coaches as one of Fredericksburg’s top two players in every match he played.

The City Islanders’ Brandon Arvey, Diablo FC’s Jose Manuel Sandoval, H.C. United’s Nick Patterson, Sunrise SC’s Calvin Rezende, Parsippany SC’s Juan Mejia, the Ottawa Fury’s Emile Cardinal and Mountain WFC’s Taj Sangara received three votes each.

In the girls’ tournament, Jasmine Martinez of Arsenal FC was the named the MVP by Head Coach Cle Kooiman following the championship match. Martinez, a midfielder, was one of three Arsenal FC players selected to the All-Tournament Team. The second was forward Autumn Altamirano. The third was defender Stacey Huddleston. The team went 4-1-0 at the North American Finals, losing their only match of the season, 2-1 to the CASL RailHawks on the second day of the Group Play stage.
