Wondolowski named to US National Team camp roster

Club alumnus named to U.S. Jan. Camp roster for second consecutive year

Dec. 22, 2011

WondoSAN JOSE, Calif. – For the second consecutive year, San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski will join the U.S. National Team for its January training camp as the leading scorer in Major League Soccer found himself on the list of 20 players called into coach Jürgen Klinsmann’s winter session. Wondolowski is a Diablo FC (DVSC Renegades) alumnus and also played at De La Salle High School and Chico State.

The camp will convene Jan. 3 ahead of matches against Venezuela on Jan. 21 (7 p.m., University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.) and Panama on Jan. 25 (Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City). Klinsmann is aiming to establish a player pool for 2014 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, which begins in August of 2012.

“This is a great opportunity for Chris and I’m happy to see his hard work and success on the field rewarded. It’s an honor any time you get to represent your country,” said Earthquakes General Manager John Doyle.

Wondolowski was a January camp participant in 2010. He wrapped up that session by earning a spot in the United States’ starting lineup for a friendly against Chile at the Home Depot Center, his first cap with the national team. The two-time leading MLS goal scorer also appeared in three matches for the U.S. during the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Diablo FC premier teams excel this season in new high-caliber leagues

Success in National Premier, Western College Development Assn.

Dec. 23, 2011

Diablo FC 95 U16 boysWhen it was announced that Diablo FC had entered its teams in two new high-caliber programs this year there was probably some trepidation as to how the teams would fare. According to Director of Coaching Brian Voltattorni the verdict is in and it’s “two thumbs up” for the local competitive soccer club.

Four Diablo FC teams won their divisions in the Regional Academy League run by NorCal Premier, the US Club Soccer program in Northern California, while the Diablo FC boys teams in Western College Development Association have been in the top ranks all season. Moving forward RAL is embracing its affiliation with USCS with its top league being renamed National Premier Leagues, which has affiliated top clubs and leagues from all over the United States. Diablo FC was one of only three clubs in Northern California to have all 10 of its U14-U18 boys and girls teams in RAL Premier.

The under 16 and U17 boys and girls teams from Diablo each claimed RAL championships this fall. The U16 boys Diablo FC 95, who are currently ranked as the #2 team in America, won its RAL flight with an 8-2 record. The older U17 Diablo FC 94 boys also topped RAL standings with a 7-1-2 mark and are 21st in USA rankings Read More
