Diablo FC 99 reach Everton Cup U10 boys finals
Twice lose lead to #1 ranked team in championship game

Diablo FC 99 boys, seeded #6 in NorCal Premier under 10 State Cup rankings, took second place for the second time in two tournaments in the Sacramento area this summer. Coach Steve Shott’s team braved withering heat to reach the championship game of the Elk Grove Everton Cup before they twice surrender a one-goal lead and eventually fell to #1 ranked America USA 99, 4-2.
During the tournament last weekend, temperatures rose to over 100 degrees both days. Nevertheless Diablo FC 99 soldiered on through the blazing sun to score victories over Tracy Warriors 7-5, East Diablo Hurricanes 4-0 and Los Lobos 99, ranked #7, 1-0.

Their efforts earned them a shot at #1 ranked America USA 99 of San Jose in the final. Barcelona started strongly, controlling the game to take 1-0 lead around the 12-minute mark, only to see America equalize off a well executed corner play late in the first half. The second half started positively for Diablo FC 99 when they took a 2-1 lead halfway through the half. Victory would slip through the boy’s hands as they faded in the heat of the afternoon down the stretch, losing 4-2. Elk Grove Everton Cup was another good tournament for Diablo FC 99, pushing their early-season record to 6-2-0.
 

They were seeking to follow up on their highly-successful Cal Cup run in June, where they defeated San Juan SC Lighting 00 White, ranked #2, 2-0 in group play, only to lose the replay to them in the finale 3-2.

Diablo FC 99 boys next take the field in early August at the Santa Cruz Breakers Cup followed the next week at Santa Clara Sporting Invitational.
