Just over 13 months ago, board members from DVSC and MDSL formally met together for the first time. The club’s coaching directors, Brian Voltattorni and Marquis White, had initiated talks in the fall of 2007 about merging the two rival clubs. There were so many benefits to doing this: eliminating the competition for fields, coaches, players and sponsors, and instead working together to make a superior youth soccer program. The talks culminated in late December 2008 and January 2009 with the formation of Diablo Futbol Club.
Within 2 months the club had conducted Winter Soccer Academy for over 100 young boys and girls, hosted a sold out fund-raising crab feed, held tryouts for over 1000 children, selected and staffed 48 teams from U9 through U21 (more than the two clubs combined in 2007!) and produced a pre-State Cup tournament for 72 teams.
During 2008 we entered teams in USYSA/CYSA, US Club Soccer, Super Y-League and US Futsal organizations.
Teams represented Diablo FC in Golden State Soccer League, Super Y-League Pacific Division, Norcal Premier League, Al Caffodio League and District IV Competitive League. We had teams win division championships in GSSL, Super Y-League, District IV and Norcal Premier.
Teams represented the club in regional and national competitions in California, Hawaii, Idaho, Arkansas and Florida.
We hosted 4 tournaments, 1 jamboree and co-hosted Concord Cup XV, putting on more tournaments than any other club in Northern California. 376 teams took part in those 6 events and Diablo FC teams won championships in every one of the tournaments.
We integrated the referee programs from MDSL and DVSC and had 95% coverage of all our league, tournament and cup games. We also certified over 30 new referees at our July USSF course.
We had a parent spearhead the new “Hope Fund” that raised $18,000 and supported nearly two dozen needy Diablo FC players. Our club financial aid program funded an additional $33,000 in scholarships. We held sold out Golf Tournament and Crab Feed fund raisers.

We have initiated discussions with the cities of Concord and Clayton for new field development.
Our coaching staff hosted College Night to a standing room only audience of parents and players to discuss the process of getting into college and playing collegiate soccer. We had 5 college coaches and an equal number of club alumni currently playing in college on hand to answer questions.
All of this besides such “routine” matters as designing a new club logo and club materials, selecting uniforms and outfitting nearly 800 players, developing a new website, scheduling and equipping fields for tryouts, training and games, holding and/or attending over 150 meetings to plan tryouts, Crab Feed, 6 tournaments, Golf Tournament, 5 leagues, referees and 48 teams. Scheduling referees for tournaments, league and cup games. Planning and managing a club budget approaching $1 million.
And as an added bonus, we had our U17 boys win their 3rd straight State Cup, win the Western Regionals in Hawaii, briefly be ranked #1 in the United States and take part in the USYSA Final Four in Arkansas, the latter three achievements the first-ever for any Contra Costa County team (not located in Danville!). Our U18 boys also reached the CYSA State Cup finals.
In Boise, Idaho we had our U13 and U14 boys teams both win US Club Soccer Regional Championships. The U14 boys thus qualified for the US Club So
