Continuing on the roll they started upon returning to action after the high school break early this year, Diablo FC 92 girls won the Super-2 flight championship at the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase last weekend with over 200 college coaches on hand to identify potential recruits.

Coach Richard Weiszmann’s team heads for Virginia Beach, VA this week for the US Club Soccer National Cup VIII having won 25 of 28 games this year with one draw and only two losses (both to Santa Rosa United Thunder). This hot streak has propelled Diablo FC 92 to the #37 rating among all U17 girls teams in America in GotSoccer poll.

During this streak the team has scored 76 goals and allowed only 12 in the 28 games. They have won championships at Diablo Cup, Nomads College Coaches Showcase, US Club Soccer Regionals and Pleasanton Rage Showcase. They also played in CYSA State Cup (quarterfinals) and Davis Legacy College Showcase (finalist).

At Pleasanton there were 48 U17 girls team taking part. They were broken into 6 groups of 8 teams. Only 4 teams won all 4 of their games and Diablo FC 92 was one of the 4. They tied Washington FC Premier Black at the top of Super-2 group. The two undefeated teams were not scheduled to meet in the round-robin format, which is designed to give all the teams a chance to receive maximum exposure to the college coaches on hand.

The Diablo FC U15 and U16 girls teams were also in Super-2 group play at Pleasanton in their respective age groups. An important component of Diablo FC’s club program is to give its players interested in playing college soccer the maximum chance to realize that goal. Four older Diablo FC girls teams played in the Davis Legacy College Showcase two weeks ago and the U16 and U17 teams will also be at the Mustang Stampede Aug. 8-10.

At Pleasanton, coach Weiszmann’s girls were scheduled against four top Cal South teams.

Diablo FC 92 opened with a 3-1 victory over Palmdale Thunder Gold. It turned out to be the only goal allowed by goalkeeper Katie Barsanti and her defense, which included Emily Smith, Natalie Dib, Taylor Matson and Michelle Yasutake. Well actually they didn’t allow any opponent goals as this was an own goal! Scoring for Diablo FC were Rogan Dolan with two and Serena DeChristofaro.

Irvine Strikers Premier was the second opponent and they proved the toughest test for the 92 girls. Emily Irion put in a great cross that was directed into the Irvine net off a Strikers defender and that was the total scoring in the 1-0 Diablo FC win.
