Director of Coaching Brian Voltattorni and his coaching directors have announced Under 8 through Under 14 Diablo FC coaching staff assignments for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
“We are very pleased to unveil our coaching staff, which includes many returning coaches and two newcomers to Diablo FC,” Voltattorni said today. He went on to state that the assignments are made pending team tryouts and there may be some minor shifting as the final lineup of teams is ascertained after tryouts.
Voltattorni, who was named Contra Costa Times high school Coach of the Year for the second time last spring, also announced that Hugo La Torre (boys) and Johnny Molina (girls) have been appointed directors of the new Diablo FC U8 Soccer Academy program. Boys and girls five to seven years-old are invited to participate in this program.
Adam Cooper, recently named Far West Region Division I College Coach of the Year for his St. Mary’s College men’s success last fall, is the U9-U11 age group director. Club Technical Director Marquis White serves as U12-U14 age group director and Henry Foulk is the Diablo FC goalkeeper coach.
Joel Cazarez will be taking over the Diablo FC U9 and U13 boys teams. He experienced the highest levels of play as a youth player, winning a pair of State Cup championships, one Regional title and reaching the USYSA National Championship finals for Clovis Heat. He most recently coached for Ballistic United in Pleasanton as well as previously for Livermore (his boyhood club), Clovis and Dublin soccer clubs.
The other new club coach in the younger age groups is Andreas Orejuela, a former professional goalkeeper in Peru who has been coaching at Central Marin and is also an assistant soccer coach at De La Salle High School. He will be coaching the U14 girls Division 3 Fury.
Two veteran Diablo FC coaches, Sissi (U12 girls) and Derricke Brown (U14 boys), are joining the younger age group staff. Sissi is the former Brazilian World Cup star who also coach’s older age group teams in the club. Brown is another long-time coach for the club and De La Salle. His Diablo FC U18 boys team won the Golden State Soccer league this season.
“We plan on Division 1 gold and silver teams in each age group. Based on pre-tryout signups and returning players we may have a third Division 1 team in some age groups. We are also looking to form bronze (Division 3) teams in several age groups,” Voltattorni explained. He added, “We are finalizing a new strength and conditioning program for some teams and age groups.’’ 2010-2011 Diablo FC Coaching Staff (pending team selections) | Boys | | U8 (Director) U9 U10 U11 U11 Blue U12 U13 U13 Blue U14 U14 Blue | Hugo La Torre Joel Cazarez Mario Alejandro Steve Shott Hugo La Torre Mani Salimpour Joel Cazarez Andrew Neal Derricke Brown Hugo La Torre | | | | | Division 3 | | U14 Girls | Andres Orejuela |
